Innovative Education for Grades 8 & 9
At Sturgeon Public Schools, we are dedicated to equipping your child with the skills needed for success. The Sturgeon Virtual Academy (SPVA) was established during the COVID-19 pandemic to ensure safe, accessible, and continuous education for students and families. SPVA emerged as an alternative education option, addressing the unique concerns and needs of families through a virtual platform.
Program Update for the 2024-25 School Year
As we transition out of the pandemic, the majority of students have returned to in-person learning. Due to low enrolment numbers at SPVA, the Division is updating the grade configuration to focus on Grades 8 & 9 only, aligning the format of education with the successful model used in our Learning Centres.
New Learning Model
For the 2024-25 school year, SPVA students in Grades 8 and 9 will benefit from:
- Asynchronous Online Learning: Complete all academic programming online at your own pace.
- In-Person Support: Access support at our Learning Centre locations in Gibbons and Morinville. Staff will be available for questions, guidance, and direct instruction as needed.
- Flexible Engagement: Students can visit either Learning Centre at any time to engage in schoolwork, seek help, or book specific times for direct instruction.
Important Changes
- There will no longer be regularly scheduled, daily in-person virtual lessons.
- SPVA will not accept registrations for Grade 7 students for the 2024-25 school year.
Supporting Diverse Needs
Our team is committed to meeting the diverse needs of students who may not thrive in a traditional school environment. We provide the necessary resources and support to help students reach their full potential. Additionally, we continue to offer the Home Education option for families seeking a more personalized education experience.
